What is a 24 hour comic?

A dare to create a 24 page comic book- pencils, story, inks, lettering, EVERYTHING, in 24 continuous hours.

Got the guts?

We will have one room in the main building where we can all work and keep each other awake and smart. Each person creates his or her own 24-page comic in the time period. It will be moderated by Tom Hart and other faculty members.

A note from 24 Hour Comic creator, Scott McCloud:

At one hour per page, some treat the 24-hour comic as a minimalist exercise (“how little can you put on a page and still have it be comics?”) but I like to think of it opposite way:” how MUCH can you draw in an hour?”

This is about challenging yourself to not be blocked, to not be perfect, and to not be overly concerned with non-essentials. This is about COMMUNICATION in essence. Essentially, this is less about craft (the perfect line, the perfect gesture, the perfect idea) and more about responding swiftly and smartly (the best line, the best gesture, the best idea available at that moment.) This is a learning experience and will tell you tons about your creative process: what you are good at, how much you can accomplish, what is necessary to communicate, what you are blocked and freaked out by, It will teach you how to respond artistically.

In general, no sketches, designs or plot summaries are prepared, and improvisation is generally considered the most satisfying route. This is a school environment, however, and certain rules will be flexible in the interest of learning. Go here to learn more about the 24 hour comic in general: www.24hourcomics.com .
