APE this weekend! Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I've got to write you some Trunks!

84 doesn't look as awful as it felt to draw. I'm loving your explorations of Baldy (I can't hide that he's my favorite of the new characters.)

Doubt I'll draw more than this before APE. See you Saturday!

Oh, good - I'm glad the new ones are okay. Of course I will have more at APE. This is going to be a heck of a weekend!

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:12 PM EST

The new strips are the best yet! Love the King statue strips. Hot! Can I get a couple new ones from you IN PERSON at APE?! I'll try to be caught up. I drew 84 last night- hurried and it looks it. But didn't letter it yet.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what I'm up to, either. I'm totally winging it.

I read the whole archives at Serializer today. It really takes off after the arrival of Vernielle.

Posted by Shaenon @ 07:42 PM EST

Ooh- yeah the king's human statue lessons! I can't wait to see what the heck you are up to!

Posted by Tom @ 04:48 PM EST

Love the new strips!

Posted by Tom @ 04:47 PM EST

Hey, we're really starting to pull ahead of schedule! 64 is the strip up at Serializer today, and we've drawn up to 81! That's nearly how far ahead I usually am on Narbonic.

Posted by Shaenon @ 02:41 PM EST

Did you get the new strips? Next up will be the King's lessons.

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:24 PM EST

I struggled on that left arm of Hutch's all night, too!

Posted by Tom @ 04:16 PM EST

Oh, crap, 81 is finished! You're all caught up with me! Okay, more tonight.

81 looks really nice.

Wednesday, January 22, 2003

Hm. Maybe Tim's right. I think it works either way, but you could try erasing the other half of the slide.

Posted by Shaenon @ 04:31 PM EST

Do you think today's suffers from the error Timothy mentioned? That the second part of the slide shouldn't be visable?

80 was a lot of fun. 81 will be a cinch.

Posted by Tom @ 12:29 PM EST

79 and 80! Yes! This means I have to write some more stuff, and fast. I'll see what I can come up with tonight.

Posted by Shaenon @ 12:20 PM EST

Tuesday, January 21, 2003

Did I mention there's a 79 now? I think I was too distracted when I drew it.

But this is fun!

I feel like I finally got Frick down, too. He's gone through so much! Next is Vernielle, by the end of the story, I have to figure out her look without question. I love Frick in the new ones!

Posted by Tom @ 01:02 PM EST

Yes, Baldy is sad and defeated - for now!

The new strips look great. I am tremendously happy. Okay, time to go put titles on the Serializer episodes.

Posted by Shaenon @ 12:28 PM EST

Just put 78 up too

I'm really having fun having the king carry baldy. im not sure if it was your intention, and maybe i am just exaggerating it, but i like the way its shaping up that baldy is so devastated to have his collaboration halted that he has no impulses of any kind anymore. no ego, no desire, he is completely at the mercy of the king.

Ha! The "seized" panel is gorgeous! I also like Fen's grin in the previous strip. Oh man.

If it means getting both Aroo and Baron Bean into Serializer, Andrew and I volunteer to help with the scanning.

Indigo's postcards are just for his comic, Circle Weave. I don't know who's arranging the photocopy drop. My work address is available for drops of anything small enough for me to carry.

Posted by Shaenon @ 02:01 PM EST

I'm leaning towards Aroo, with Bean in close second. no problem doing them both over time, but finding someone to scan and upload all of them at once would be hard.

Who is arranging the photocopying SF drop? Any idea? And what do the postcards look like? You mentioned serializer, et al. Are they all on there?

Couple new ones in the archives. Well they're not really archives, are they? What's the opposite of archives? "Prechives?" Ok, so there are 2 new ones in the archives, including I think my favorite strip yet. "Seized for the war effort!"

Pah. Just tell me what strip you want. Or I'll pick one out for you. I'll give it to you at APE.

I just received Indigo Kelleigh's promotional postcards for the MT/Serializer/AS table. Those will be coming to APE as well.

Daniel Pinkwater thinks you should do Baron Bean.

Posted by Shaenon @ 07:32 PM EST

of course I'm into that thing. And you can have the Dave strip. I want to get him better though sometime. I am embarrassed. --Did I misspell that? And related: sorry about the armadillo spelling. I will change. That pose was fun though. Your baldy and king poses are so terrific.

Posted by Tom @ 04:32 PM EST

Oh, heck, you can have any Narbonic page you want, if you're into that sort of thing. Just let me know.

Posted by Shaenon @ 03:43 PM EST

Oh, but you mistyped "armadillos" in 71.

Posted by Shaenon @ 03:41 PM EST

Hee hee! This story is a blast.

Posted by Tom @ 03:36 PM EST

About time you tell me how I can get a Narbonic page from you.

Let's negotiate.

(For the record, that was a really hard angle and I did a terrible job! I am sorry!)

Posted by Tom @ 03:34 PM EST

Hey, I know that guy getting run over by the elephant! Oh man! Tom, can I buy that strip from you? Or trade you something for it? I just really, really, really want it.

The elephant's looking really good these days!

Okay, so the King brings Baldy to the palace to interrogate him and ends up getting lessons in human statue-ing. Meanwhile Hutch and Oswald are locked in the dungeons. This puts everybody in the palace except Vernielle and Fen. And I cannot forget about the townspeople and the ongoing war fever. Yeesh, there's a lot going on.

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:32 PM EST

I gave the original of today's strip to my mother for Christmas. I don't think she got it. What's not to get?

A couple new ones up there. I spent some time sketching out the "seized for the war effort" panel in #76 last night- it might be one of my favorite sketches of yours ever, so I'm trying to make it happen. It's all working except the king's legs so far. Great joke. I love it.

Where is all this going?? I ask as a reader.

Posted by Tom @ 10:47 AM EST

Tuesday, January 14, 2003

Yeah- sent you a repsonse to your narbonic address. Love the new strips! Now I'm falling behind. These are so awesome. I'm thinking more and more about this Hutch Owen strip too. Which is a very very bad sign.

Posted by Tom @ 02:22 PM EST

Sellout! Sellout! Tom Hart is a dirty sellout!

Love the lunchbox. And I want to see people at APE wearing Hutch Owen underpants.

Button nose on Vernielle = Good.

You get the new strips last night? I'm churning 'em out now!

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:50 PM EST

I went crazy on cafe press last night: http://www.tomhart.net/hutchowen/store/index.html.

But the real thing I wanted to say was I forgot that over Christmas I think I figured out Vernielle's look finally! It was all in the nose- look here:

dr seuss for elephant reference! what was i thinking?!!1 of course

wait til you see the stampeding elephant, though. I think you'll like it.

Posted by Tom @ 03:54 PM EST

Oh, and the plans you have for Serializer are very, very exciting. I probably shouldn't say anything more in public.

Posted by Shaenon @ 03:25 PM EST

No, I like the changes you've made! This is good!

I spent the morning looking at advertising art by Dr. Seuss: http://orpheus.ucsd.edu/speccoll/dsads/index.shtml

Some great elephants in there.

Posted by Shaenon @ 02:02 PM EST

Ok I took a stab at 70. I love my own drawings. Tried to rewrite a bit. Take a look- maybe it needs a once over on your end too. You'll see why. I might have gone in the wrong direction.

Posted by Tom @ 11:00 AM EST

Friday, January 10, 2003

by the way- there's a 72a now. let me know what our next steps are!

Posted by Tom @ 01:18 PM EST

Thursday, January 9, 2003

Ok- in answer to your questions:

Reactions to music by characters:

Oswald would groove on it. Get lost or put down his own rhymes as a impromptu duet. Try to find F to rap for her.
Hutch would try to guage the king's reaction for ways to exploit it.
Frick would be JEALOUS!

Send me the new ones soon, but I'll start on these anyway. They're great!

Posted by Tom @ 02:43 PM EST

Groovy new strips except when does the king take off? Ok I'll see.

For now- here is the real baldy: haha

Posted by Tom @ 01:02 PM EST

Okay, in the scripts I just sent, put the one with the theft of the record AFTER the others. In fact, there are several more strips I want to insert before the record gets stolen. I had some ideas this morning.

Posted by Shaenon @ 12:27 PM EST

Wednesday, January 8, 2003

I liked it because Vernielle seemed like the most unlikely character to launch into a soul-searching soliloquy. I'm really enjoying your drawings of her.

How do you think Oswald, Hutch, and Frick would react to / describe Faustine's music? I am at an impasse right now.

Posted by Shaenon @ 12:36 PM EST

I love today's strip! It's so Hamlet-like!

Posted by Tom @ 11:39 AM EST

Monday, January 6, 2003

Oh, and I love the crocodiles! Also all the people in the foreground in 68!

In 64, it should be "pages," not "ages." My handwriting sucks.

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:38 PM EST

I think I may have to actually play the record. I'm not quite sure how to play it out, though. I'll draw some stuff tonight or tomorrow.

Posted by Shaenon @ 01:34 PM EST

All caught up and ready for more. Is that record going to play are you going to be a tease? (I think you should tease the readers, personally, for a very long time.)

I like that after our two weeks of French strips, the next one is the discovery of the tape! Terrific!

Hope you had a good holiday. See you!
